Last week Kimberly, Kole, and Andy made the trip to Austin for Alabama-Coushatta Day at the capitol. The celebration consisted of traditional tribal dancing from performers of all ages, several tables that displayed tribal culture and history, and stations that showcased intricate basket-making and beadwork.
Several state representatives and senate members were also in attendance. The Senate recognized Principal Cheif, Mikko Kanicu, Donnis Battise, and Second Chief, Mikko Poliika Istaata, Millie Thompson Williams. Both Battise and Thompson just celebrated their inauguration just a few weeks ago. Thompson is the first woman to ever hold the title.
It was a wonderful turnout and a great time honoring our friends at the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas. For more photos of the event go check out our Facebook page.
